These photographs by Scott Fredericks are a small selection the 322 discarded sewing machines he documented during 2016.  These sewing machines, salvaged from land fill and repair technicians, became part of a large scale sculptural collaboration between Artists, Diokno Pasilan, Pete Gregg and Scott Fredericks.   The iconic sewing machine is a symbol of practicality, imagination and skill.

Once an essential tool for resourceful living, that took pride of place in the family home.  Today with the mass production of cheap clothing and fashion cycles dictating throw away quality, owning a sewing machine is no longer seen as essential.

Sadly the sewing machine, once a thing of beautiful industrial design and domestic practicality, is also becoming a discarded item.
